You can expect to find that pupils within the schools are made up from a variety of ethnic and social backgrounds. Some schools however, can be more challenging to work within than others due to the social problems that exist within Britain.
The academic year starts in September and ends the following July. There are 195 teaching days in total. The school year is made up of six terms, and there are thirteen weeks of holidays.
Primary Schools teach 4 – 11 year olds, whcih is called Key Stage 1 & 2.
Secondary Schools teach 11-16 year olds, which is called Key Stage 3 & 4. Some secondary schools have a sixth form college which teaches up to the age of 18, this is called Key Stage 5.
The core subjects taught in secondary schools are English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Humantities, Information Technology and Languages. They will also offer a number of other subjects to give a complete curriculum.
What ever your choice, teaching in the UK is challenging but it will enhance your teaching experience overall.
