Women of Achievement Awards
This November saw the long awaited return of the Women of Achievement Awards, which was sponsored by our founding member and company director, Nicky Keller. Nominations were received from across East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire and the winners were announced at a glittering awards ceremony at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel on Friday, November 12th.
Organised by Women in Business, a networking organisation for high achieving women in Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, the Women of Achievement Awards aim to celebrate the achievements of women who have gone above and beyond to achieve their goals, whilst inspiring others to realise their potential.
Nicky was a finalist in the 2007 awards in the Female Entrepreneur category, and feels it is important to show her support for other determined businesswomen and to celebrate their achievements.
“These awards are incredibly important as they provide a real opportunity for successful women to shine. After attending the last awards, I was truly inspired by the event and I wanted to show my support and recognition of these incredibly hard-working and determined women.”
Seven awards were up for grabs, including the Established Business Award; the Female Entrepreneur Award; the Voluntary and Community Award; the Local Government Award; the Women Working in a Traditionally Male Environment Award and the Overall Woman of Achievement Award.
Nicky presented the Overall Woman of Achievement Award which went to Claire Stockton. Claire was also the winner of the Voluntary and Community Award and was recognised at the awards for founding The Echoes Foundation, a charity which supports children in Hull, East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire with special and additional needs. She said: “I can’t even begin to explain how I’m feeling. I am really proud.”
Nicky added: “It was a real honour to present this award to such an inspirational woman who has a wonderful passion for helping others and a real determination to succeed.”
After Toyah Willcox’s inspiring speech which was delivered at the 2007 award ceremony, entertainer and comedienne, Ruby Wax took to the stage as guest speaker for 2010, delivering a speech which was both entertaining and moving. Ex ITV presenter Fiona Dwyer also got involved at the awards ceremony and took up the role of compere.
More than 450 guests attended the awards ceremony which was also in support of Dove House’s Love You 2, an appeal which aims to raise £2.5 million in two-and-a-half years.
